# Practice dance locally without editing video

You do not need a new file for every practice change. A local player can show a temporary mirrored view, adjust playback speed, and repeat a phrase without editing the original.

**Takeaway.** Keep the source file local, make display-only changes during playback, and leave the original file unchanged. This reduces setup without turning practice into an editing project.

## Change the display, not the source

A playback mirror can reflect the visible video surface while the stored file remains untouched. Speed changes and seeking can also happen during playback. When the session ends, there is no newly rendered choreography file to organise or accidentally treat as the original.

This approach is best for practice decisions that may change from phrase to phrase. Permanent editing is still useful when you intentionally need a new deliverable, but it is unnecessary for a quick orientation check.

## Start with a local file you are allowed to use

Choose a movie already available through your device's photo or file picker and confirm that you have permission to practise with it. A local workflow does not need a link scraper or downloader.

Picker-based access can keep the selection narrow: choose one item for the current session instead of granting broad library access. File access should last only as long as playback needs it.

## Turn a difficult phrase into a short loop

Seek to a stable preparation pose and mark it as point A. Move to the first settled pose after the difficult movement and mark it as point B. The useful loop includes enough preparation to enter the movement safely, not only the fastest instant.

Begin below full speed if detail is unclear. After the pathway is consistent, return to normal speed and practise the transition into the next phrase. Clear the loop when repetition stops being purposeful.

- Use five-second jumps to locate the phrase, then fine-tune with the seek control.
- Verify left and right before repeating many times.
- Keep controls and labels in their normal orientation while only the video is mirrored.
- Pause when the app leaves the foreground so playback does not continue unexpectedly.

## Know the local privacy boundary

Local playback can avoid accounts, analytics, uploads, and recording, but the exact boundary depends on the player you use. Check whether it makes exports, retains imported copies, or sends diagnostics before adding sensitive rehearsal footage.

A temporary picker copy should be removed when it is replaced or when the playback session ends. A file chosen from a document provider should remain under that provider's scoped access rather than being silently duplicated.
