# Practise heels and shuffle at home

Heels and shuffle both live in the feet, and they ask for opposite kinds of care. Heel dancing at home for beginners is a balance problem in a small room. Shuffle is a speed problem: the pattern is invisible until you slow it. Do not train them as if they were one class.

**Takeaway.** For heels, loop the turn on a clear floor in the shoes you will wear. For shuffle, zoom the feet and use quarter speed, then climb back to tempo.

## Heels: balance before the trick

A heels tutorial for beginners falls over when the shoe is new and the floor is a rug. Clear the floor. Walk the phrase in the heels before you add the arms. If the ankle wobbles on a walk, it will quit on a turn.

Keep the step smaller than the video until the balance is dull. A living room is not a studio, and a smaller step you can repeat is safer than the full travel. Note the size in the clip so you remember it was a choice.

## Heels: loop the turn

The turn is the section to loop, not the whole song. Start the loop on the step that winds you up, and end it when you have arrived, so you practise the exit as well as the spin. Slow is allowed. A slow turn you can place beats a fast one into the sofa.

Face direction still matters. If the teacher is looking at you, check which shoulder opens before you drill ten turns on the wrong side. Ten confident wrong turns are expensive to unlearn.

## Shuffle: the feet, not the arms

Learn to shuffle at home by watching the shoes. Arms can wait. A shuffle dance tutorial in slow motion exists because the running man, the t-step, and the scrape trade places faster than a first viewing can sort. Quarter speed is the point of the session.

Zoom until the contact with the floor is obvious: which edge of the shoe, which foot leaves. If you cannot see the floor, you are memorising a blur. Pinch in, loop two counts, and name the order out loud.

## Shuffle: climb back to tempo

Shuffle that stays at quarter speed is a demonstration, not the dance. Once the order is stable, move to half, then to full, on the same two counts. Add the next two counts only after the first pair survives full speed twice.

People search for a shuffle practice tool because they are tired of losing the pattern in a normal player. The tool is slow motion plus a loop plus a closer view of the feet. It will not install the rhythm in your legs. Repetition does that.

## After you stop

Heels and shuffle do not share a warm-up. If you did turns in heels, the ankles are done. Shuffle can wait until another day. Mixing them in one tired half-hour is how a shoe or a knee gets a story you did not want.

For shuffle, film the feet once at the faster speed you can actually do, not at the speed of the video. The gap between those two speeds is the practice. For heels, film the landing of the turn, not the arms.

Stop while the correction still has a name. Write the count that broke, the side you chose, and the speed you could actually dance. Put that note on the clip itself so you do not trust your memory in the morning. Read it once before you press play. The next session starts there. A fresh video, a new song, or another half hour of watching is how that note gets lost. The phone will still have the clip tomorrow. You do not need a longer session. You need the same bars, slightly cleaner than today. Do that before you close the app.
