# Practise hip-hop at home

You can practise hip-hop at home. The doubt is usually 'can I learn hip-hop at home without a cypher'. You can learn a combo. A cypher, a crew, and a teacher's eye are different goods. Do not pretend a phone replaces them.

**Takeaway.** Pick one tutorial. Learn the groove at a slower speed, add the arms, then try the phrase at tempo. Check one side cue before you repeat it twenty times.

## Can you learn a combo at home

Yes, if the combo is short and the video is yours to practise with. A step-by-step hip-hop tutorial is a stack of eights. Treat it that way. The first eight is the session. The impression of the whole class can wait.

If the teacher is facing you, their right is your left until you flip the picture or decide you want the audience view. Hip-hop videos mix both on purpose. Test the first hit, not the whole combo.

## Groove, then arms

The bounce is the phrase. If the bounce is late, the arms will be a costume on the wrong time. Loop the groove with almost no arms until the pulse is boring. Then put the arms back at the same speed.

This is the opposite of a wedding routine, where the picture and the expression are the point of the event. Here the rebound and the hit are the point. Do not reuse a sangeet plan and swap the noun.

## Slow the groove, then the full phrase

Quarter speed on a groove can feel silly, and it still shows which foot takes the weight. Use it for the bar you fake. Use half speed to connect two bars. Use full speed as the test, not as the teacher.

When full speed falls apart, name the count. 'I lose it on 5' is something you can loop. 'I can't freestyle' is a different practice, and this page is not that practice.

## One tutorial for a week

A folder of choreographers is how people avoid the hard eight. Stay with one combo until you can start it without the video, then put the video back and see the difference. That gap is the note you write down.

Film one take at the end of the week if you want evidence. Watching yourself once is enough to pick the next correction. Ten takes you never watch are a stall.

## After you stop

Stay with the same combo until you can start it without looking. Then look, and see what the video still has that you dropped. That gap is the note. A new tutorial is a way of not writing the note.

If the groove is late, do not add arms to hide it. Arms on a late bounce make a busy mistake. Loop the bounce alone until it is dull, then put the arms back at the same speed.

Stop while the correction still has a name. Write the count that broke, the side you chose, and the speed you could actually dance. Put that note on the clip itself so you do not trust your memory in the morning. Read it once before you press play. The next session starts there. A fresh video, a new song, or another half hour of watching is how that note gets lost. The phone will still have the clip tomorrow. You do not need a longer session. You need the same bars, slightly cleaner than today. Do that before you close the app.
