# Practise a kizomba class recap at home

Practise a kizomba class recap at home while you still remember which body was the lead. The two-minute recap at the end of a workshop is the homework. Chicago stepping, Detroit ballroom, and hand dance do not use that recap. They have their own count and their own start foot. Do not merge the files.

**Short answer.** Practise a kizomba class recap at home from the clip filmed at the end of class, on the role you actually dance. In many rooms the lead's saida steps left and the follow steps right. Your teacher may have taught a different exit. Copy their body only if it is your role. Chicago stepping starts on a foot that room chose, which is not this one. Dancer Mirror does not download videos.

- A common kizomba saida sends the lead left and the follow right. Your teacher may differ.
- Stepping counts are not kizomba counts.
- Dancer Mirror does not download videos.

**Takeaway.** Name your role before you press play. Drill the exit your teacher ended on. A stepping workshop from last month is not a kizomba footing.

## Which body do you copy?

The recap is often two teachers. The lead is louder. If you follow, their left-foot exit is not your step. You will practise being impossible to lead, with great focus. Say your role out loud. Then watch the body that matches it. If they only filmed one body, ask which role it is before you drill. A caption that says 'both' is a caption. It is not a second demonstration.

A common saida steps the lead to the left on the first beat and the follow to the right. Treat that as a rumour until your clip agrees. Social dances change by city and by teacher. The Wikipedia page will situate the dance in Angola and the diaspora. It will not settle your Tuesday class.

That page is [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kizomba).

## Drill the exit they ended on

Workshops end with the move of the week, too fast, while you are already wearing your coat in your head. That move is the only thing worth saving. Loop it. Role first, then the weight change, then the styling. Styling on a wrong weight is how you block a partner's leg and call it musicality.

If the recap faces the camera, your left and theirs may already disagree. Check one step. Flip if you are copying them as a mirror. Do not flip if you are supposed to stand beside them as the audience sees the partnership. Ask, or look at whose hand holds whose.

**Write the exit you were actually taught**

| Bar | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Your role | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |

## Why is stepping a different file?

Chicago stepping, Detroit ballroom, and D.C. hand dance are partner dances with their own counts. Some rooms start the lead on the right. Some call an older count that starts on the left. I am not going to pick one and strand you in the wrong city. The workshop you attended picked. Use that file. A kizomba saida pasted onto a stepping basic is how both dances get a weird hitch.

The shared pain is the morning after: a clip, a role, a count you almost remember. The shared tool is a loop and a slower speed. The steps are not shared. Label the files with the city and the teacher. 'Workshop' is how you open the wrong one.

The picture flip is the [mirror guide](https://dancermirror.com/guides/how-to-mirror-a-dance-video). The role still comes before the flip.

## The morning after, not the month after

Do the recap the next day, while the teacher's voice is still in the phrase. A month later you will 'correct' the clip toward a dance you prefer. That correction is a new dance. Your partner, who drilled the real one, will feel it as a shove.

Ten minutes. The exit, three times clean, once at tempo. Then stop. A second hour of related videos is how the exit gets decorated into a different step.

## This is not the salsa page

Salsa on1 and bachata have their own start feet. The reason to keep them apart is practical. Your body will blend the breaks if you drill them in one sitting, and you will step on someone who did not consent to a blend. Finish the kizomba exit before you open another partner file.
